November 22, 2016 Golden, BC – Located in the heart of six of the most stunning national parks Canada has to offer, Golden, BC, is set to welcome tourists from around the world looking for an authentic, unique winter mountain experience.  Golden offers endless opportunities for outdoor adventurers to enjoy an extended visit to this winter wonderland.

“While many are anticipating the opening of Kicking Horse Mountain Resort on December 9th, you don’t have to be a skier or snowboarder to experience the Rocky Mountains to the fullest,” says Andy Brown of Tourism Golden. “We have developed a list of seven days of mind-blowing, off the beaten path adventures that can be topped off with an evening of rustic fine dining and local entertainment”.

Visitors can start their mountain adventure by checking into one of Golden’s wide range of accommodations, ranging from cozy, rustic cottages and cabins, great hotels and motels, bed and breakfasts, hostels to large, luxurious lodges.  Boasting the most backcountry lodges on the continent (more than 20), three of BC’s top five backcountry lod ges are located around Golden according to Ski Canada Magazine (Fall 2016 issue).

During your stay, check out Golden’s great selection of cafes, bistros, restaurants, diners, pubs and bars offering a wide range of culinary delights to suit all tastes and budgets.  Rustic fine dining experiences include Whitetooth Mountain Bistro, ELEVEN22, Cedar House Restaurant, Eagle Eye - Canada’s most elevated dining experience, and others.

Seven days of Golden Adventures!

Day 1 - Dog Sledding in the Blaeberry.  Travel back in time and spend a day sledding through snowy landscapes of forests, frozen lakes or mountains accompanied only by the sound of paws on snow!  Enjoy a personal, hands-on experience interacting with the sled dogs and their professional dog-sledding guides and keep an eye out for a wide range of wildlife!

Day 2 - Experience the fourth highest vertical drop in North America at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort. The world-class resort is renowned for its spectacular views, legendary terrain and some of the best snow on the planet with more than 120 runs, 85 plus chutes and four bowls. Thrill seekers will find themselves in paradise with 4,133 feet of vertical to ski down and 2,800 skiable acres to explore. While advanced riders will find themselves in paradise, beginner and intermediate riders can also embrace their spirit of adventure, with 40 per cent of total runs catering to these two skill levels.

Day 3 – Snowshoeing or Fat Biking.  Golden’s extensive network of mountain biking trails are increasingly active during the winter months. With the continued growth of snowshoeing and the emergence of fat bikes, more than 129 km of trails are accessible just minutes from downtown. Experience the enchanting, winter wonderland on one of the many designated trails in and around the area.

Day 4 - Walk with the Wolves.  Northern Lights Wildlife Wolf Centre is the only place in Canada where you can walk with wolves in their natural environment. Daily walks are run year round. Feel a little apprehensive? No problem, alternatively you can also view these amazing animals from several viewing stations while getting the whole scoop on the howling canines.

Day 5 - Cross Country Skiing.  The Dawn Mountain Nordic centre is home to more than 30km of groomed skate and classic cross country ski trails that wind their way through the pristine wilderness. The Nordic centre is also home to an ever increasing snowshoe network. Cross Country Skiing is also available at the Golden Golf Club.

Day 6 – Snowmobiling.  With 240 kilometres of groomed trails, Golden is the snowmobiling capital of BC.  Advanced riders can enjoy steep and remote alpine sledding areas. Families or those less experienced can zip along established trail routes through forests or organize a guide to show them the area’s hidden gems.  To prepare snowmobilers who wish to safely explore the alpine quarters without a guide, four training facilities in Golden offer avalanche awareness courses.

Day 7 - Heli-skiing or Cat-skiing.  Top off your Golden adventure week with an adrenalin-pumping day of bottomless powder amidst a pristine wide-open, vast and varied terrain.  As Canada’s home of heli-skiing, Golden offers the only town-accessible heli-skiing in Canada.  Say goodbye to lift lines and hello to huge bowls, spectacular glaciers and pristine snow!

If you find you need a little down-time during your stay, grab a coffee from one of Golden’s many coffee shops and enjoy a riverside walk, followed by an afternoon of indoor or outdoor skating or bowling.
