Wolves at play in B.C.'s Northern Lights Wolf Centre

Along a quiet road northeast of Golden, B.C. two people have made it their life's work to protect wolves, and to change Canadian laws to better serve them.

Approximately eight hours drive northeast of Vancouver nestled between the Rocky and Purcell mountain ranges, seven grey wolves are resting peacefully on a 1.25 acre plot of land - a safe haven built from the ground up by two adventurous animal lovers.

The place is Northern Lights Wolf Centre, located 18 kilometres north of Golden, B.C., and it has been in operation since 2002 when husband and wife Casey and Shelley Black first opened its doors to the public.

Starting with a single wolf pup named Aspen, and with Casey's background in training animals for the film industry, it seemed a natural fit for the couple to train Aspen to be a movie star.

But in that small amount of time the roles Aspen were being offered were less than sympathetic to the species, which made the Blacks uncomfortable.
