Golden Ultra

Why race solo when you can bring your friends? Here are the top 6 races across Canada to try in teams

They say that misery loves company – so why run an entire ultramarathon solo when you can bring your friends to share in the agony... I mean, awesome experience? Here are the top seven relay races (or events with relay options) from across Canada to try in teams.

Golden Ultra
Where: Golden, BC
When: September 23-25, 2016
Relay runners of this three-day stage trail race are rewarded with stunning fall scenery and picturesque mountain views as they traverse single-track trails to the summit of Kicking Horse Mountain Resort. On the first day of the Golden Ultra, runners take on a 3 or 5 kilometre uphill run over dirt terrain with 1,000 metre of elevation gain. Day two features a 60 or 30 kilometre loop on single-track trails, and day three is a fun and flowy 20 kilometre run to wrap up the event.

Golden Two-Four Mountain Bike Race
Where: Golden, BC
When: June 18-19, 2016
Combine camaraderie with competition at Golden Two-Four, a 24-hour and 8-hour mountain bike relay race in the riding mecca of Golden, BC. The race—held on 14-kilometres of world-class single-track trails at base of Mount 7 in the Mountain Shadows trail network—is determined by how many laps a rider or team of riders (teams can have up to 10 people) can complete in 8 or 24 hours. The course contains 500 metres of climbing and descending with relatively short technical sections, so even beginner mountain bikers can participate.
