Steve Dawson's Black Hen Roadshow

April 19, 2018 - 7:30pm

Serious guitar devotees doubtless recognize “Black Hen” as the personal label of the incomparable Steve Dawson, the virtuoso six-stringer who has produced or played on more than 80 CDs – seven of which have won Junos.

And the Black Hen Roadshow, now in its third incarnation, is Steve’s uniquely exciting touring showcase of stellar roots talent. This year’s line-up includes Steve Marriner, best known as the dynamic front man for legendary blues trio MoneyJunk. After starting out as a teen prodigy on harmonica, Marriner was later acclaimed as “harmonica player of the year” at the Maple Blues Awards an amazing four years running. This full-fledged ambassador of the blues is also an eloquent singer and plays a fine baritone guitar.

Steve has also picked the remarkably versatile and compelling vocalist Ndidi Onukwulu. Although primarily regarded as a blues performer, Ndidi incorporates aspects of gospel, folk, jazz, country, and even surf into her sound. An expressive and emotional singer, Ndidi is also a great songwriter known for tackling serious themes.

Rounding off the front line is Leeroy Stagger. With an 11th CD just out, Leeroy’s ear-grabbing blend of roots, rock, alt-country and pop has confirmed his status as one of this country’s finest and most original singer-songwriters. He’s played with Steve Earle and Modest Mouse and had his songs appear on TV shows Grey’s Anatomy and Sons of Anarchy.

Anchoring this remarkable blend of solo and group performance will be the very standup bassist Jeremy Holmes. In short, Steve Dawson and his awesome Black Hen Revue offer Golden’s roots-music fans an evening of unforgettable musical performance delivered by an all-star lineup.
